DIY Diya with newspaper - Craft 7

Cute newspaper diya by Anushya - 12 yrs

Materials required

Old Newspaper
Glue
Paints
Brush
Scissors

Cut one sheet from one side of the newspaper. Cut it further into four long equal pieces. Now make them into long rolls by rolling from one end to another diagonally. Attached video for help.

Make total 5 rolls for one diya. To attach the roll, put little glue in one end (inside the roll) and push another roll edge into it. It will be like one big roll. Repeat for other rolls.

Start from one edge, and slow make a big tight round from the long roll. Stick in the start and end.

After it dries, slowly shape it like a cup first. Then pinch one edge to give shape to the diya.

Apply thin layer of fevicol inside the diya everywhere and allow it to dry. This way, the diya will not lose shape and become stronger.

Now paint it in single or multiple colours as you like. Paint inside first. After it dries, paint outside also.

Your cute paper diya is ready.

Step by step Tutorial - Waste CD hanging

A wall hanging made with waste CD, glitter and glass colours. I have posted the step by step instructions for the CD work. They can be assembled depending on your choice of beads or other shapes too.

Materials required

Waste CD
Cellotape
Scissors
Glitter tubes
Glass colours
Sequeins and kundan stones

First remove the white portion side where the name is written on the CD using a knife. That is the CD is cut along the circumference mildy with a knife to make it into 2 parts. Now we will be using the transparent portion.

At times we may remain with some shining part on the CD which is not possible to remove cleanly. At this stage use small pieces of cellotape to clean it as in the video.

Now draw a design of your choice using glitter tube and let them dry well.

Now use glass colours of your choice to fill in the design.

Finally add kundan stones or sequeins to decorate it further.

Similarly make as many as you wish for a wall hanging.

Join them with beads, bells or other accessory to complete it.

Party welcome banner

A simple poster that can be used for kids birthday party decoration. Just draw your kids favourite cartoon, colour them and decorate further with glitter tubes. To make it even simpler, you can paste a printout of the cartoon or the easiest would be to take a printout of the complete design and stick it on a chart paper..This can be hung on the main door and similar posters can be made to put up all over the room.

Party decoration hanging

Try these simple hangings for kids birthday parties or just to decorate kids room.

Materials required

Chart paper
Glue
Printout of kids favourite cartoon
Gift wrapping paper
Thermocol balls
Glitter tubes
Thread and Needle

Cut chart paper into desired shape like circle, square, stars, hearts. Stick the cartoon printout in some of them and use gift wrapping paper to decorate a few. Ensure that you do the decoration on both sides so that there is a design even when the hanging turns out with wind. Use glitter tubes to decorate it further.

Insert the thread needle through some thermocol balls, then one piece of chart paper and tie a knot. Insert the needle from the opposite end of the knot and again add in some thermocol balls and another chart paper piece. Keep repeating to get a long hanging. Make as many hangings as required to decorate the room.

Waste CD decoration as diya base

Materials required

Corrupted CDs
Glitter tubes
Diyas
Cardpaper

Decorate the CDs with glitter tubes in different patterns on the shining side. Cut a small square piece of cardpaper and stick it below the hole on the cd to close the hole. This is done so that any oil spill from the diya doesnt fall on the floor. Once all these dry well, stick a painted diya in the center.

Looks good on center table as a decorative piece

Satin rose basket

Materials required

Satin ribbons (one for rose and another for base)
Two small rounds of thermocol pieces
Glue
Pins

Make small satin roses and glue them to one piece of thermocol. Stick another piece of thermocol below it. Cover the thermocol round sides with another colour satin ribbon. Attach a small piece for the basket handle using pins. A small and cute bouquet is ready.
